A name change in Erie hockey brought with it renewed excitement. Coach Ron Hansis was at the helm from 1988-1995,
guiding the Panthers to the playoffs in each of their first five seasons. Barry Smith, a future NHL assistant coach,
would man the bench during the 1995-96 season. The following year Erie would change direction and submit a team into
the OHL, where they have been ever since.
